Happy Friday Jewelry 201 fans. Reports have indicated that an Astroid is to brush by Earth today, you can see the story here. It's ok, happens more than you think, we will be fine!
What does this have to do with jewelry? Well, glad you asked...If indeed "a diamond is forever," the most primitive origins of Earth's so-called black diamonds came from none other than outerspace space. Now THAT is cool.
Let's learn a little more...
"Conventional diamonds are mined from explosive volcanic rocks t
hat transport them from depths in excess of 100 kilometers to the Earth's surface in a very short amount of time....This process preserves the unique crystal structure that makes diamonds the hardest natural material known."
It's been researched, that the geological settings of conventional diamonds are virtually identical. None of them are compatible with the formation of black diamonds.
Approximately 600 tons of diamonds have been mined, traded, polished and adorned over the last 100 years. However, not a single black diamond has been discovered in the world's mining fields.
Black diamonds were once the size of asteroids, a kilometer or more in diameter when they first landed on Earth.
Ok now that is some fun information! Not only are diamonds forever, they are forever out of this world (literally)! Corny? Maybe a little too much. But, with valentine's coming up you can really give your special someone that "one of a kind, unique" piece of jewelry with black diamonds. Unconventional, maybe - but such a story behind them!
